6E Dairy Barn

THE GOATS

We were raising Boer goats to bring meat into the house, but with the cost of milk steadily going up all the time we decided it was time to take a different approach.  So, we sold the Boers and went on the hunt for some good dairy does so that not only could we supply our family with milk for drinking, cheese making, soap and lotion making and for milk for baby animals, but also we would also supply meat with any whethers that were born.  Right now I'm trying to concentrate on getting a registered herd of LaManchas and registered Nubians with a few other goats thrown in for good measure.

Currently we only have 2 girls in milk.  We do sell goat milk for $5 a gallon or $3 for half gallon for bottle baby animals.  Goat milk is readily accepted by most bottle babies and tolerated well.  (Not sold for human consumption)

All babies are pulled at birth and raised on Jersey milk for CAE and other disease prevention.

Here's a few pics of some of our girls.

This is Dee.  She is a registered black Oberhasli and is one of the top milking Oberhasli's in the country.  She's also a real sweetheart and we love her.  Thank you Tana McCarter for allowing us to purchase her.

This is Jewel.  She is a registered 75% Alpine.  She's a real sweetie with really nice teats.  Thank you Tana McCarter for allowing us to purchase Jewel!

This is Whimsey.  She is registered Saneen/LaMancha cross shown here in her dirty pasture whites.  LOL  She's a good girl and we love her.

THE COW

This is Pauline our sweet sweet Jersey milk cow.  She provides us with her sweet milk along with that we make farm house butter, ice cream and yogurt out of her milk and working on making cheese.  She is a wonderful cow!  She also keeps our pigs fat and sassy with left over milk.

We do sell cow milk for bottle babies.  Cow milk is excellent for giving to bottle baby goats to stop the spread of CAE and other communicable diseases.

We sell it for $4 a gallon.  (not for human consumption)
